The XR350R was new for 1983. It was among the first Honda off-roaders with the radial four-valve (RFVC) head, fed here by twin progressive Keihin carburettors, and it sat in a new chrome-moly frame with Pro-Link rear suspension and a 41 mm Showa air fork. Testers liked its light weight and quick steering on tight trails but found it short of power against two-strokes, and heavy riders could bottom the suspension. Early bikes also suffered a weak clutch spring and an off-idle carburetion stumble.
